![]() ![]() He also goes on to say that, “In 2008 we were in the middle of two wars and the worst economic crisis since the great depression, and today our businesses have created nearly five and a half million new jobs.” By him stating fact, he is telling the people of Iowa all that he has accomplished and how much more he could accomplish if he is given the change to prove to them that he is worthy or re-election. By referring to these people as one with himself he makes them feel as if they are never alone, they are continuously supported by Obama who wants to make everything better. Implying that this is the change “we” have made and “we” are not done yet. Along with this he keeps repeating the word “we”. He also discusses “the war in Iraq is over” and “the war in Afghanistan is ending. Obama makes it seem like if these people vote for him, they are helping their family. By using the term “family” he goes straight to the heart of these Iowan’s because no one wants to see their family member struggle. By using this sense of time, he is promising that if he were to be re-elected, he would make sure that there was more employment available. He addresses “laid off family member” which is referring to the recession when many Americans had lost their jobs. More specifically, his ability to analyze time in his speech makes it more believable that he is well suited for another term. In his use of logos, President Obama makes sure that the crowd knows all that he has done in his first term. This represents the bond that they hold, and the bond the President Obama hopes to keep in order to win this state over one more time. After he addresses them as “Iowan’s” there is an immediate cheer that is followed. Also, by continuing to refer to this specific audience of people, he is portraying a good use of directing his speech to where he is giving it. In terms of his characters, he is speaking directly to the state of Iowa when he says, “Iowan’s listen up” or “Iowa you know me.” By talking straight to his audience, he creates a more personable approach, giving the people of Iowa a sense of trust in a man that he claims they know. President Obama also effectively uses his target audience and the place at which he is giving the speech in order to have been so successful. He is reminding them that he is now giving his last speech, finishing where he started, and therefore hoping to have the chance to start all over again. Right here.” The way he points to the building, providing the Iowan’s with a flashback of last year, is a highly effective part in his speech. Also, Obama pointed behind him to the modest building that housed his first Iowa campaign office in 2008 stating, “I came back to ask you to help us finish what we’ve started because this is where our movement for change began (pointing). ![]() He reminds these people that he already had their trust from the very beginning, and he expects nothing to have changed because of all that he has put forth for this country. This is where he first started his journey of change, and this is where he wants to finish it for yet another term. By his use of repetition, “right here” he is reiterating the fact that this is where it all began. Because this is where our change for movement begins. ![]() I’ve came back to ask you to finish what we started. Right from the start, President Obama establishes his credibility by reminding the Iowans that he was already there, and had their support, “I’ve come back to Iowa one more time, to ask for your vote. Through his use of ethos involving background credibility, logos involving statistics of America’s improvement and pathos to touch the families struggling, President Obama won the election. He took full advantage of every situation he could, including time and place, and expressed to his audience how much he cared and wanted the chance to serve another term. His speech, resulting in his re-election, was successful. Being the former president, Obama used many previous examples in his speech regarding all of the positive changes that he bestowed on America in order to win the Iowans and the more broad American voting audience over. This was his one last plea to prove that he was worthy of re-election. Last year, President Obama made his final speech to the American’s in Iowa. ![]()
